Potassium Persulfate (KPS) is a white crystalline powder at room temperature, readily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is acidic. As a strong oxidizing agent, its chemical properties are similar to those of ammonium persulfate but more stable: it decomposes upon heating, releasing oxygen and active oxygen species; its aqueous solution decomposes more rapidly when heated or in the presence of catalysts. It can effectively oxidize various inorganic and organic substances and initiate the polymerization of vinyl monomers. Based on its strong oxidizing power and initiation capability, its primary applications include serving as an efficient initiator for the aqueous polymerization of monomers such as acrylamide and vinyl acetate, as well as a micro-etching and copper surface roughening agent in printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing. It is also widely used in textile bleaching, wastewater treatment, petroleum extraction, and metal surface treatment, among other fields.
