Ammonium persulfate (APS, also known as ammonium peroxydisulfate) is a white crystalline powder or granular substance at room temperature, readily soluble in water. As a strongly oxidizing inorganic salt, it exhibits reactive and unstable chemical properties: it decomposes upon heating, releasing oxygen; its aqueous solution also decomposes more rapidly when heated or in the presence of metal ions. Leveraging its strong oxidizing power, it can effectively oxidize various inorganic and organic substances and can initiate the polymerization of vinyl monomers. Based on these core characteristics, its primary applications include serving as an initiator in polymerizations (e.g., for acrylamide, styrene), as a micro-etchant and copper surface cleaner in printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, and extensive use in textile bleaching, paper desizing, metal surface treatment, and wastewater treatment, among other fields.
