Ethylene Urea (EU) is a white crystalline solid at room temperature, readily soluble in water and polar solvents such as alcohols. As a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, its chemical properties primarily stem from the imine structure within its ring. It can undergo hydroxymethylation reactions with formaldehyde to form stable derivatives and also reacts with free formaldehyde in resin systems, functioning as a formaldehyde scavenger. Based on these characteristics, its primary applications are as a highly efficient, low-formaldehyde-release textile finishing agent for producing wrinkle-resistant and easy-care cotton fabrics, and as a modifier for urea-formaldehyde and melamine resins to reduce formaldehyde emissions during resin curing while improving flexibility and water resistance.
