Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate (AAEM) is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with a slight fruity odor. It is readily soluble in common organic solvents such as alcohols, esters, and ketones. As a dual-functional reactive monomer, its molecule contains both a methacryloyl group capable of free-radical polymerization and a highly reactive acetoacetoxy group, giving it unique chemical properties: it can be introduced into polymer chains via free-radical polymerization, while the active methylene group and keto carbonyl group on the acetoacetoxy moiety can undergo efficient cross-linking reactions with isocyanates, amines, aldehydes, and polyvalent metal ions. Based on these properties, its primary application is as a high-performance cross-linking agent. It is used in the synthesis of self-crosslinking acrylic resins and widely employed in the production of environmentally friendly water-based coatings, automotive coatings, coil coatings, inks, adhesives, and specialty textile coatings, significantly enhancing product performance in terms of weather resistance, chemical resistance, adhesion, and mechanical strength.
