Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature with a slight pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water but readily soluble in common organic solvents. As a bifunctional monomer, its molecule contains both a methacryloyl double bond capable of free radical polymerization and an epoxy group that can undergo ring-opening reactions, making it highly chemically reactive. Based on this unique structure, its primary application is as a high-performance reactive modifier monomer. Through copolymerization, it introduces epoxy groups into polymer backchains and is widely used in the preparation of functional acrylic resins, epoxy acrylates, and cationic polymers. This significantly improves the adhesion, chemical resistance, flexibility, and crosslinkability of coatings, adhesives, plastics, and fiber composites. It is also employed for the surface modification of biomaterials.
