N-(Isobutoxymethyl)acrylamide (IBMA) is typically a colorless or pale yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with a density of approximately 0.97 g/cm³ and a boiling point of 108°C. It is soluble in common organic solvents and can be miscible with water. As an acrylamide derivative, its molecular structure contains both an acryloyl double bond capable of free-radical polymerization and a reactive isobutoxymethyl functional group. Based on this, as an efficient cross-linking agent, its primary application lies in significantly improving the water resistance, solvent resistance, adhesion, impact strength, and flexibility of polymers through copolymerization and cross-linking reactions. Compared to traditional cross-linking monomers such as N-hydroxymethylacrylamide (NMA), IBMA not only requires a lower cross-linking/curing temperature (around 120°C), offering significant energy-saving benefits, but also releases the more environmentally friendly isobutanol instead of formaldehyde during the reaction process. Consequently, it is widely used in textile printing binders, high-performance acrylic emulsions, solvent-based resins, UV-curable coatings (for substrates such as metal and wood), and applications aimed at improving product feel.
