N-Butoxymethylacrylamide (NBMA) is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with a slight odor. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in common organic solvents such as alcohols, esters, and ketones. As a reactive functional monomer, its chemical properties combine the free radical polymerization activity of the acrylamide double bond with the cross-linking reactivity of the N-butoxymethyl group. Under heating or acidic conditions, its alkoxy group can undergo ether exchange reactions with polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amide groups, forming a stable covalent cross-linked network. Based on this characteristic, its primary application is as a cross-linking monomer. It is widely used to modify acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and polyurethanes, significantly enhancing the solvent resistance, heat resistance, hardness, and adhesion of coatings. It is particularly suitable for producing high-performance industrial coatings (such as coil coatings and automotive coatings), inks, adhesives, and fabric finishing agents.
