N,N-Methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) is a white crystalline powder at room temperature, readily soluble in water and some polar organic solvents. As a bifunctional monomer containing two acryloyl double bonds, its core chemical property is its ability to form covalent cross-linking bridges between two polyacrylamide polymer chains via free radical polymerization. Leveraging this efficient network-forming capability, its primary application is as a cross-linking agent. It is widely used in the preparation of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) gels in biochemistry, the synthesis of hydrogels (such as contact lenses and drug delivery carriers), and the production of acrylic resins, adhesives, and thickeners to enhance the mechanical strength, solvent resistance, and three-dimensional network stability of the products.
