Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM) is a white to pale yellow crystalline solid or powder at room temperature, with a slight odor. It is readily soluble in common organic solvents (such as alcohols, ketones, and esters) and slightly soluble in water. As a multifunctional monomer containing both an acryloyl group and a ketone carbonyl group, its chemical properties combine the free radical polymerization activity typical of acrylamide-based monomers with the special reactivity of the ketone carbonyl group—particularly its ability to undergo ketone-hydrazide cross-linking reactions with hydrazine compounds. Based on this unique structure, its primary applications are as a functional monomer and cross-linking agent. It is used in the synthesis and modification of acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and UV-curable resins to significantly enhance coating properties such as adhesion, hardness, solvent resistance, and weather resistance. DAAM is widely employed in high-end automotive coatings, industrial coatings, coil coatings, adhesives, and textile finishing agents, among other fields.
