Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is a white to pale yellow powder or fibrous solid at room temperature, readily soluble in cold water to form a transparent, viscous colloidal solution. As an anionic linear polymer compound, it exhibits stable chemical properties and possesses excellent thickening, suspending, emulsifying, film-forming, water-retaining, and adhesive capabilities, along with good heat resistance. Based on these characteristics, its primary applications are as a safe and efficient thickener, stabilizer, binder, and film-forming agent. It is widely used in the food industry (e.g., as a stabilizer in ice cream and yogurt), the pharmaceutical industry (e.g., as a tablet binder and ointment base), daily chemical products (e.g., in toothpaste and shampoo), petroleum extraction (e.g., as a drilling mud additive), textile dyeing and printing (e.g., as a sizing agent), and construction materials (e.g., as a water-retaining agent in cement), among other fields.
