Acrylamide is a white crystalline solid at room temperature, readily soluble in polar solvents such as water and ethanol. Its molecular structure contains a reactive carbon-carbon double bond and an amide group, giving it active chemical properties: the double bond can undergo radical polymerization or copolymerization to form polyacrylamide (PAM); the amide group can undergo reactions such as hydrolysis and hydroxymethylation. Its primary application is as a key monomer for synthesizing polyacrylamide and its copolymers.
